    Outreach Programs

Outreach programs are primarily directed toward kindergarten through fifth grade. Programs are suitable for all levels including gifted, PEGS, and special education classes. Currently two types of programs are available: Skytellers and Showbox Science. A new opportunity, Project Astro, is being considered for future opportunities.

    Skytellers

Skytellers is a combination literature (storytelling) and science program. Students are made aware of the historical background of astronomy through Native American legends about how various elements of the sky came to be. This is followed by a science story comparing and contrasting what scientists now know with the information in the Native American stories. This is a DVD series followed by discussion and appropriate activities to reinforce the lesson.

    Shoebox Science

Shoebox Science is a growing collection of hands-on science activities that can be experienced and enjoyed by students in the classroom. A basic core of activities in each science project can be modified to suit the needs of the teacher and the class; thus while all classes chosing, for example, the Color activities, will participate in general activities to learn about color, the activities will be more complex for gifted students and less complex for special needs classes.
