Family Science Nights

Family Science Nights at the Planetarium are scheduled for each month during the school year from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Family Science Nights may also be scheduled as school events in conjunction with an open house or other school event.

There is no charge for attendance at Family Science Nights and everyone is welcome to join in the learning and the fun.

F
amily Science Nights at Goddard Planetarium are an opportunity for elementary students and their parents to enjoy learning about science in a hands-on environment. Activities are inquiry based and age-appropriate and fun for all. Research shows that children whose parents are involved with their education, whether formal (school) or informal (outside of school) perform at higher levels and have a greater interest in learning.  Studies also show that children acquire their attitudes about science and math from family members. Family Science Nights provide an opportunity for parents and children to explore science in a casual and fun discovery program. No star shows are presented on Family Science Night.

Each month a different topic will be explored — Current topics and dates are listed here.

. Topics have included, flight, kites, electricity, magnets, patterns, microscopes, gravity, solar system and others. This year

Students receive a Family Science Nights Passport when they first register. The Passport will be stamped each time the student completes a Family Science Night event. Attendance awards will be given — from pencils to gift certificates for summer science camps.
